"Before Fair Trade I was selling my grapes to the local coop and with the 2006 vintage the coop went bankrupt and I did not receive any payments for the grapes."
"Since Fair Trade, beginning with the 2007 vintage I have started to implement organic production systems, with plans to purchase more land by 2010."
Nidi D., Grower - Los Cowboys
Strong - Honest - Proud

Los Cowboys is a true representation of its culture. Strong, honest and proud, they seek to preserve the quality of life through Fair Trade.
Los Cowboys is sourced from three farming communities of Lavalle, San Martin, and Medrano in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The small family farmers of Argentina are increasingly susceptible to the low market prices of their grapes as the world demand increases. The prices they receive for their grapes do not generate enough income to meet the basic needs of the family. As a result, their opportunity to invest in improving their farms and vineyards are threatened and are at risk of having to sell the property.
Through Fair Trade Wine, Los Cowboys directly improves the quality of life fro the strong, honest and proud vineyard workers, their families, and their communities. The Fair Trade Certified™ directly supports a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices, community development and environmental stewardship.
The fair trade sales from where Los Cowboys is sourced benefits approximately 300 small family growers and their immediate family. The members have decided to use the fair trade premiums over the next five years for three community projects; purchasing a ambulance, installation of a water filtration system, and construct playgrounds at all nine area schools.
The schools currently do not have enough funding for the new playgrounds and Double up Fair Trade is the commitment to constructing nine playgrounds at the local schools within the communities within an earlier time frame. For more information about Double up Fair Trade, please click here.
The other social projects voted for by the members and the joint body, a management committee composed of 80% members and 20% outside advisors, is to establish a fund for purchasing an ambulance for the hospital in Medrano and the installation of a water filtration system in the communities of Tres Porteñas and La Gabriela.
The small family vineyards have been producing grapes with amazingly rich and full flavors with excellent balance and distinction for generations. However many of the vineyards do not have the skills or means necessary to develop their own wineries or brands. Through Fair Trade, Los Cowboys is able to showcase the excellent purity and terroir from their grapes and assist each grower to develop their business skills and to achieve sustainability. With every glass of Los Cowboys you can directly help the grower, their community and the environment.
